Description
- The classic frag grenade: throws nasty little bits of metal around, hurting everything.
Flavor text
- "I am sure you all played enough video games before the Outbreak, so you know perfectly well what a frag grenade is. And stop pretending that you didn't. No-one in here is going to believe you."
Strategy
- The fragmentation grenade, in addition to its explosive blast (which is roughly the same as that of the HE Grenade), also sends out roughly a dozen fragments that behave much like nails fired from the VLAD-1000, meaning that they penetrate enemies and bounce off walls/obstacles. Care should be taken when throwing these, as the fragments will travel beyond the blast radius, and may strike you.
- Much like the Support's shotguns, frags are most effective when employed in bottlenecks, especially tight corridors. The effect of a frag grenade in a hallway is devastating; in addition to the explosive blast, the fragments, rather than dispersing, will proceed to bounce around said hallway like sharp, deadly pinballs.
- Scrakes only have Explosive resistance (0.5x damage modifier), meaning that fragments will deal normal damage to them, making frags slightly more effective than their HE counterparts. Using either against Scrakes is still inadvisable, however.
Trivia
- The frag grenade resembles the American Mk 2 "Pineapple" grenade, adopted in 1920. Although used mainly during WWII, they were produced in such large numbers that they saw widespread use until the 1960's, and many examples survive today.
