Values listed in brackets are for alternate (secondary) fire.

The axe is a medium-power melee weapon dealing good damage with a reasonable swing speed. Secondary fire has a slightly slower swing speed but does almost double the damage. Prior to update 1043 it was very economical, costing only £150. Often used as a primary weapon by the berserker.

Primary fire does enough damage un-perked to decapitate a siren or a husk on lower difficulties, and secondary fire does enough to decapitate them on higher difficulties.

As with all melee weapons it has the ability to back-stab for double damage, to which the head multiplier is then applied. Additionally, like other melee weapons it can also damage multiple enemies in a single swing.

Strategy

  • Try to use alt-fire on larger targets, since it does a lot more damage and only swings a little bit slower.
  • Use to decapitate medium-size targets such as sirens and husks.
