M16A1
The M16A1 is the first generation of the M16 series. It adds a forward assist, a closed "birdcage" flash hider, and a chrome plated chamber and barrel to the original M16 design. The M16A1 uses the 5.56x45mm round. The first few XM16E1s arrived in South Vietnam in October 1961, and its mass adaptation began in November 1963. It was a rifle that was designed to be more controllable, more lightweight, and cause more damage than the M14 battle rifle, eventually replacing it as the standard service rifle in 1969 for the US military.

Gameplay
In-game, the M16A1 is used by the Southern Forces. The M16A1 is capable of two fire modes, 'Semi' and 'Auto'. It features an adjustable sight apparatus with two settings. While the straight magazine modeled on the M16A1 is capable of 20 rounds in real life, it is presented as only being loaded with 18 rounds, as per common practice by soldiers during the Vietnam war, as loading the full 20 rounds would result in increase wear on the magazine spring, thus increasing jams. The M16A1 features an attachable bayonet.
Trivia
- The M16A1 was shown with an available 30-round magazine in the earlier stages of the game
