The Slasher

General Information

The Slasher is a moderately quick specimen that approaches the player and tries to grab hold, immobilizing him/her. It has low health and is considered to be of low threat to players, although their speed relative to the others in its same family (the clot and the cyst) makes it the most difficult of the group. This combined with odd head movements at times and the ability to occasionally sprint toward the player make this low threat zed one that needs to be dealt with quickly or else risk getting overrun by other zeds.

Notes on XP

  • XP rewarded for your on-perk weapons.
  • Killing with weapons other than your current perk grants the XP to the perk that weapons belongs to.
  • Damaging with on-perk weapons and then finishing it off with an off-perk weapon divides the XP and grants it to both perks.
  • Damaging with off-perk weapons and then finishing it off with an on-perk weapon divides the XP and grants it to both perks.
  • Assist kills grants full XP.
  • The Katana currently does not grant XP towards any perk.
  • The bash attack (default v) does not count as Berserker damage for Berserker XP, meaning it grants the XP to your current perk.

Speed

- Slashers move slowly when docile, and sprint when enraged.
- On higher difficulties, Slashers have a chance to enrage upon sighting a Player, and have a chance to enrage when shot.
- Once enraged, Slashers will never stop sprinting until they are killed.
- Movement speed is randomized, but is skewed towards higher values as difficulty increases.
- Movement speed is set to maximum at all times on Hell on Earth difficulty.

  • For comparison, a healthy player character with minimal weight walks at a speed of 383, and sprints at a speed of 460.
  • These values are increased by 1% per level for Berserkers, Gunslingers and Medics.

Resistances

- Slashers have little to no resistances, and no weaknesses.

- Slashers only have one weak spot, which is the head.

Behavior and Extermination Tactics

- Slashers are low threat enemies, but are more dangerous than the other Clot variants due to their higher speed and damage. Getting surrounded by Slashers can result in a huge amount of damage being taken.
- They can be dispatched with a single headshot from any weapon (except the 9mm Pistol when not used by a Gunslinger with Bone Breaker skill, or a Commando with the Backup skill.)
- On early waves, ammunition can be saved by switching to the Knife as a single swing can decapitate a Slasher when aimed at the neck or the head.

- On higher difficulties, groups of Slashers become high threat targets that should be dealt with before they close the distance, as they are extremely dangerous when enraged. They are capable of doing a surprisingly high amount of damage when ignored.
- When enraged, they sprint with a hunched over gait and swing their heads wildly, making headshots difficult, when in range with a player, they will start swinging their hands and slash the player multiple times with their claws, causing large amount of damage if the player ignored them or did not act quickly
- Once they get into range while sprinting, they will either leap at players (with their arms covering their face) or perform a combat dodge roll.
