Summary

In Country: Vietnam is an upcoming multiplayer tactical first-person video game, developed as a total conversion modification of Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad.

The overall aim of the modification is to extend the existing World War 2 setting of Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad into the second half of the 20th century to include the intensity of combat that was common during the Vietnam Conflict.

History

The Pop Smoke development team behind In Country Vietnam started working together in 2006 on Mare Nostrum (a total conversion modification for Red Orchestra: Ostfront 41-45) which subsequently became the first ever unreal engine and third party modification to be released over Steam. During the development of Mare Nostrum strong ties were formed with Tripwire Interactive and so a new project for the upcoming Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad was planned. In April 2010 key members of the development team announced In Country: Vietnam was to be developed under the banner of Pop Smoke Games.

Name Etymology

The term "in country" is used with American forces to indicate you are 'in the country of conflict'. This term came into use during the cold-war era, as conflicts were more often centered around one specific nation; for example Korea and Vietnam.
