'''Hans Volter''' is the boss faced at the end of a standard Killing Floor 2 game. By defeating him, the game ends and the team is presented with a sizeable XP bonus as well as encouraging music and a message reading "Your squad survived". He bears the image of a disheveled old man, naked save for a pair of trousers and an exo-suit of Horzine technology that sustains his life as well as well as augmenting him with many powerful capabilities. He carries two StG-44 assault rifles, and wears a gas mask that seems to have melded with his flesh in some way. He appears to have a vast amount of health, which often leads to a long and potentially deadly battle. Great care should be taken when dealing with this specimen.

Hans Volter; Nazi Scientist

Hans Volter is one of the two bosses faced at the end of a standard Killing Floor 2 game.

Combat

Hans employs a large variety of attack, movement, and retreat patterns. He typically begins by moving towards players and attempting to stab or slash them, and proceeds to utilize an array of weapons including nerve gas grenades, fragmentation grenades, bullets from dual-wielded StG-44 assault rifles, and a life draining technique. The combination of these attacks, as well as his paralyzing life drain, can be very overwhelming and highly deadly for players or teams who are not proficient at dealing with them.

Phases

Hans Volter has 4 attack phases, each increasing his damage and pool of available attacks.

He begins each phase in "attack mode", in which he utilizes the weapons he currently has available to damage victims. Once he is brought down to 35% of his health, he enters "hunt" mode in which he sprints towards a nearby player and attempts to grab them to drain their life. During "hunt" mode, Hans gains an 85% resistance to all forms of damage and will talk about draining life. Also if he cannot drain a player fast enough, other small ZEDs will begin spawning. Once he has successfully grabbed someone, and entered his "draining" mode, he gains a 90-95% resistance to all forms of damage. After he finishes draining life, he will drop the target, his health will refill to 100%, his Phase counter will progress by 1, and he will re-enter "attack" mode. This repeats until he has reached Phase 4, after which he can no longer enter "hunt" mode and instead unloads any and all weaponry until his health is brought to 0%.

How much his damage increases with each phase remains to be tested.

Strategy

1. As he begins his 'attack' mode, unload on him with any weaponry possible. Once his health drops to 35%, and he begins moving quickly and speaking about needing to drain people, stop shooting him and reload weapons while he finds a target. Do not try to prevent him from grabbing, and if anything, move towards him to save time.

2. Once he grabs his target, after ensuring all weapons have been reloaded, heal the grab victim (preferably using ranged darts from a medic weapon) and position yourself to prepare for his next 'attack' mode. Avoid being near him when he finishes his grab, as he often releases nerve gas around his own body.

3. Once he drops his victim, repeat steps 1 & 2.

Throughout this battle, it is important to keep good cover and be aware of incoming grenades. Keep an eye on Hans, stay as far away from him as you can, and continue to damage him during his 'attack' mode.

It is highly recommended for each team member to purchase the HMTECH-101 Pistol before this fight begins, as it will allow for the team to heal each other throughout the battle. Seeing as Hans puts out quite a substantial amount of damage, and the HMTECH-101 is relatively inexpensive, this action can vastly help your team to survive.
