The VLAD-1000, despite it's low tier and seemingly lackluster stats, is a very powerful weapon, and a must-have in any [[Berserker (Killing Floor 2)|Berserker's]] kit.<br />
<br />
In single-fire mode, the VLAD can be used as a somewhat accurate head-popper, allowing a Berserker to pick off [[Bloat (Killing Floor 2)|Bloats]] standing behind crowds of zeds, or even [[Siren (Killing Floor 2)|Sirens]]/[[Husk (Killing Floor 2)|Husks]], with some patience and kiting. It is also able to kill [[Crawler (Killing Floor 2)|Crawlers]] in one body shot, as well as decap [[Stalker (Killing Floor 2)|Stalkers]], [[Gorefast (Killing Floor 2)|Gorefasts]], and [[Cyst|any]] [[Slasher|variant]] of [[Alpha Clot|Clot]].<br />

In "shotgun" mode, the VLAD will fire a cluster of seven nails with each pull of the trigger, for a total of 210 damage if all nails connect. Coupled with a six round magazine (42/7 = 6), the VLAD, on any perk, has roughly the same burst potential as an [[M4 Combat Shotgun]] in the hands of a level 25 [[Support (Killing Floor 2)|Support]], at almost half the price and 2 less weight.<br />

Nails fired from the VLAD have built-in penetration. This allows Berserkers to quickly (and safely) clear crowds of weak enemies, freeing them up to deal with bigger threats.<br />
<br />
The VLAD, being an improvised weapon with no barrel to speak of, has very low accuracy. This is especially true in "shotgun mode", where the VLAD has a spread comparable to the [[Double-barreled Boomstick|Double-Barrel Shotgun]]. It is also less consistent, often sending out a lopsided blob as opposed to an even distribution of shot.<br />

Firing the VLAD in "shotgun" mode will quickly deplete your magazine, resulting in a very long reload that, unlike with tube-fed shotguns, ''cannot'' be done incrementally, which also means it cannot be "topped up" without sitting through the entire reload. Because of this, the VLAD's sustained DPS suffers greatly.<br />
